Isabel Ortega (Miss Izzy) began her journey and passion of dance in the Latin infused culture in Miami, FL. Her mom noticed her love for singing and dancing and enrolled her in Heidi and Joe's Dance Studio where she learned Ballet, Jazz, and Tap at age 7, inspired her strong, and energetic style. She later moved to central Florida, where she reunited with her 1st love of Dance in 6th gr. Later on moving again to the east coast of Florida on the beach side. Even though she moved a lot she found ways to use her room as her dance space to express herself as a teenager girl. When she was 15 she took a trip with her family to New York, and while cite seeing she saw her 1st cipher, where break dance was 1st introduced to her. Seeing the crowd celebrate and clap and the hip hop came alive she knew that was her niche. In high school she was cheerleading captain and as was also involved in Competition All Star Cheer and dance "Journey All Stars" Where she performed and did many performances, including bring it on 4 and "Teen Fest". While in Cheerleading she was also being trained in gymnastics and tumbling while also helping out as a pee-wee coach for hip hop.
After graduating from High School she took ballet, int. jazz, and adv modern in the local community college in Brevard County. Later she started up with some of her classmates the BCC dance club where they put on shows for the college and community events. This Dance club allowed other dancers to show case there choreography and advance their skills in other forms of dance. At BCC she also learned Flag and African Dance. March 31,2007 she attended a week long workshop from ISH based out of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. A residency from the UK where she learned the fundamentals of Hip hop, from house, popping, locking , street dance, and break dancing, as well as krumping. She was hungry for dance as she inspired others to as well, also doing local dance films such as "respect" playing B-girl trixy. She also did back up dancing and did a show for Hurley's "Walk the Walk" in the summer of 2009 filmed by MTV in Los Angeles California. In 2009 she joined "Solos Crew" a women's hip hop dance ministry, in Orlando Fl, performing with Christian artists Lacrae, kj52, J.R., Flame, and Group 1 Crew. While being in Solos crew she danced with Soul Movement, B-boy & Street dance ministries. She also trained with Ladies of Soul to better the gifts for Gods Kingdom. At 19 she loved volunteering in the Boys and girls club and was also hired in the YMCA at the after school program where she was the Dance teacher for "anonymous swagg".
She has a big heart for young kids and getting them off the streets and onto the dance floor. Through her church she got connected with House of Hope working with trouble teens building them up with lyrical and hip hop dance, where they also exercised in a creative way. Before leaving FL she was asked to do a 5 week program in Winterpark "Club Fyt" an exercise camp where she also taught them new dance routines and fitness .
In 2011 she moved to Washington with her Husband and is now in Cosmetology School. She hopes to continue her Education in Social Work and Psychology to help and reach the youth through dance. She believes there are so many beautiful things you are made with and anyone can dance no matter what your circumstance is. God is so beautiful and Dance is a way to express and inspire others to be free, and to move the world for His kingdom. |
